Let God Do the Heavy Lifting

Participant: Hey, what's up everybody?

Welcome back to the
Breakthrough Church Podcast.

Uh, excited for a few updates on what
we've been working on, and then also, uh,

just some, I just wanna share a little
teaching briefly to get our, um, pumps

primed for launch day and for Breakthrough
Church coming at you September 13th.

If you're, uh, if you're new,
you haven't listened to this.

Uh, podcast before then, uh, you need
to know we're launching our public

services on September 13th at 1320 Holly
Drive in Richardson, Texas 7 5 0 8 0.

We're sharing space with Loft
City Church and our service is

Saturday night at five o'clock.

And, uh, we're gonna encounter
Jesus and his presence together.

It's gonna be us really be really great.

I'm excited about it.

The team's coming together.

We spent some time last Saturday
doing a training with Kids

Ministry and Prayer Ministry.

Uh, and then this coming Saturday
we'll do some more trainings and,

um, worship a little bit and getting
the tech team all squared away

and things are coming together.

Um, and, uh, and this, so today or this
week is move in week for students at UTD.

And so my amazing wife Abby,
had the idea, why don't we just

get some Taco Cabana tacos?

Breakfast tacos and some cold water
and post up on campus and bless some

students and share the gospel, pray,
hand out, invite cards, all this stuff.

So we did just that for three hours
this morning from nine 30 to 1230.

Me, Abby, and then two other guys on
the, three other guys on the launch team.

Uh, we posted up and it was incredible.

I was so encouraged when we left,
um, we got connected with two.

Ministries on campus, focus and
connect and just got to know them

and, and give them invite cards
and just build relationship.

It was amazing.

I thought that was one of the
biggest wins there to partner with

on campus ministries as a church.

Um, and even got invites to some of
their stuff, um, which is awesome.

Uh, man, I met student, a student from
Nigeria, a student from Jerusalem,

Israel, a student from, uh, Bangladesh,
uh, South Korea, China, I believe.

Um, man, it was in India.

It was, it was wild.

I think all the international students
just get to campus a little early,

but this is one thing about UTD is the
nations are there and we got to share

the gospel with them and pray for them.

And, uh, it was so powerful and
we met so many students who.

Don't have a church home that
they're brand new to campus,

brand new to the area, and they're
actually looking for a church.

Like one guy was, you know, he's
uh, an evangelist type of guy in his

hometown in Fort Worth and is just
in town first, first day on campus.

A little anxious, nervous about it.

And we got to talk to him and pray for
him and, um, give him invite cards.

And he, I was like, dude, I'll give
you a t-shirt and you can come out

here next week with us and share the
gospel with students if you want.

He's like, dude, I'm so in.

Like, whoa, did we just recruit somebody
for Breakthrough Church's launch team?

Like, come on baby.

Um, so yeah, there's that.

Um, and show the gospel with several
students and sort of the team.

I mean, we encountered probably a
hundred, a hundred or so students.

Like that's probably not
that big of an exaggeration.

I think it's probably close to that.

And um, I just left thinking, man,
we need to do this every week.

Man, this is awesome.

It's just harvest is plentiful.

I felt like we could have stayed there
all day, even until this minute, and that

we would've still talked with students.

So we gave out about half of our
tacos, shared the rest of the boxes

of the tacos with focus ministries
who had their own table, and,

uh, man fired me up, fired me up.

Um, we had a new couple join the launch
team, a, a a family of six and super,

super excited about them joining.

And um, so I think our
launch team is over 40 now.

Um.

Which is, uh, unreal.

Our goal was 50 before launch and we're
a month out and we need 10 more, but if

you count kids we're over 50, so, whew.

Come on, Lord.

Uh, he is providing, I shared the
story of finding a drummer last

week and he's just continuing to do
that, and I just can't believe it.

Um, I'm so grateful to the Lord Jesus.

Thank you.

Um, I wanted to share something
that I've been, I've been reading.

I, I read, uh, I've been reading
through the Bible and trying to do

that before the end of the year.

And this last week I had the joy and
privilege of reading through Leviticus.

So imagine reading eight chapters
of Leviticus a day, uh, which is

really just like two and a half days,
but still, ugh, that's kind of dry.

Uh, the beginning of it was amazing,
just thinking about all the, the animal

sacrifices and how they all point to Jesus
and his sacrifice and the sufficiency of

the blood of Jesus for us, um, to allow
us entrance into the presence of God.

Um.

And then, um, and then it gets kind of
dry with all of like the how to handle

leprosy, how to handle un unlawful
sexual relations and all this stuff.

But then it gets to chapter 26, and it's
talking about the blessings for obedience

and the punishment for disobedience.

And I was reading in chapter 20, uh,
in 2026, and at the end of the first

paragraph, it basically says like, if
you do all of this, I will do this.

I will do this, I will do this.

If you obey me, I will do this.

If you obey me, I'll do this.

And in verse 11, he says, I will
make my dwelling among you and my

soul shall not ab whore you and I
will walk among you and will be your

God, and you shall be my people.

I mean, that alone is
like, wow, what a promise.

Like.

The reward for obedience is the presence
of God, and it's him walking among us.

Like this is re restoring the,
the Garden of Eden, right?

It says that the Lord walked among
the garden with Adam and Eve.

This is a restoration of that moment
in the tabernacle and in the people

of God because of the tabernacle and,
and because of the order of worship.

And, uh, he says, I will walk
among you and will be your God

and you shall be my people.

Wow.

Um, that's just, that's amazing.

It's powerful stuff.

And then he says this.

I am the Lord your God, who brought
you out of the land of Egypt, that

you should not be their slaves.

And here it is.

Oh, check this out.

Ooh, take notes on here on this.

And I have broken the bars of your
yoke and made you walk erect man.

You have, I have broken
the bars of your yolk.

Like I, if you don't know what that looks
like, like a yolk is if, if you would

put like an oxen, you put a yolk on the
oxen neck and it would be the very thing

that they would use to connect them to
what they were dragging behind them.

This, this.

This oxen.

And so the, the yolk was like
these bars around the neck.

Uh, I'm making motions with my hands.

You can't see me.

But, uh, imagine it's kinda like a,
a, a harness almost around the neck.

And it was wooden.

It was like these bars and it would weigh
them down 'cause they're pulling something

behind them to tread the grain or, uh,
the wine press or to, um, till the soil.

Oxen would do this and they'd
have this, this heavy bar on

their back that would weigh them
down and cause them to go slower.

'cause they're dragging
something heavy behind them.

And so when, when, when the Lord is
saying, and I have broken the bars of

your yoke, it's like, imagine we're
yoked with this heavy burden of slavery.

This was true of the Egypt
of the Israelites in Egypt.

They were yoked with a
heavy burden of slavery.

God says, I am the Lord your God, who
brought you out of the land of Egypt.

Why That you should not be their slaves.

He delivered them out of slavery and I
broken the bars of your yoke and made you

to walk Erect God's will for his people
is not that their burden with heavy yolks,

but that they would walk standing tall,
walking forward into the promised land.

Wow.

This is amazing.

And I read this a few days ago
and just was chewing on it.

Um, and, and then last night I was
getting in the car to go order the Taco

Cabana tacos for today, and it was like
the Holy Spirit just said, Hey, remember

when I touched your life back in 2021?

You remember when I opened your
heart and poured in my love?

I was doing that to you.

Then I was breaking the
bars of yolk off of you,

and I was like in awe.

And I began to just.

Laugh, um, and pray in the
spirit, and sing in the spirit.

And I, I just felt so much freedom.

I thought, oh my gosh,
that's what you did.

It wasn't just like a touch to
say that you loved me, like you

delivered me from something, and
immediately I thought you delivered

me from performance and religion.

What's the one thing that'll destroy
that unconditional love and grace?

And in that eight week time period
in 2021, I've told you about this,

but to remind you, in 2021, the
Lord opened my heart in a moment of

worship, and the Holy Spirit came in
and delivered me from a yoke, a burden

of performance and religious duty.

Up until that point, I had encountered
the presence of God very small ways.

And I didn't really know
what I was doing in ministry.

I hadn't seen everything I felt like
God wanted me to see in ministry.

And I just felt like
there was more for me.

I didn't know what it was, but
I was also shackled by just

striving and I gotta pray.

I gotta read and, you know, ah, I
just gotta do all these things for

God and strive and, and then there
was this moment in, in my living

room, all by myself where the Holy
Spirit came and I just was weeping.

I just remember it so clearly.

I just was undone in the presence
of God receiving his love in ways

I have never received before.

And I was 20, I was 28 at the time.

27.

Um, and then, and when I read this
passage, what he was doing was he

was breaking the bars of my yolk.

The yoke of performance, the yoke
of religion, the yoke of striving.

And he broke it off me and made me
walk erect, made me stand tall and walk

upright into all that God had for me.

And it was shortly after that
the Lord began to move in my life

through the gifts of the spirit and
prophecy and tongues and and healing.

And I began to experience the full
range of God's presence in my life.

And I didn't realize that my very.

Religious efforts were
the things that hold.

Were holding me back from
walking erect, from walking tall.

Um.

And I just, I look back on, so like last
night this happened and I'm just like

laughing and singing in the spirit and
praying and just so stoked, like you

broke the bars of my yoke, Lord, thank
you for doing that, for delivering me.

And so God will do this, right?

He will give us these moments of
encounter that are so profound

and so deep, and so meaningful.

So that we can look back and
remember the deliverance.

Um, this is what happened when God
delivered the people from Egypt in Exodus

14, if you remember the story, they're
standing, uh, outside of the city of Egypt

or the country of Egypt, and they're.

They're literally looking at the wilder.

The, the waters are in front of them.

The Red Sea is in front of them,
and behind them is Pharaoh and his

army, and they're fearing greatly.

And the people of Israel cried out to the
Lord and they said to Moses, is it because

there are no graves in Egypt that you have
taken us away to die in the wilderness?

Whoa.

I mean, they just watched all of
the, the plagues and this mighty

acts of God to deliver them.

And why did God use those mighty acts?

And it says somewhere,
I can't, I can't see it.

But he used those acts to, to
communicate to the people of Israel

and to Egypt, that he is the Lord.

He alone is the Lord and he alone
has the power to save and deliver.

And he gave them these dramatic and
encounters with his power and presence

so that they would look back and say.

Remember what God did.

Did you see that?

We can't deny it.

That was powerful.

That was manifest presence in our lives.

We can't deny what God did then,
and he's still doing it today.

And so they say there's not enough
graves in Egypt that you've taken

us away to die in the wilderness.

What have you done to us in
bringing us out of Egypt?

It's not this, what we said to
you in Egypt, leave us alone that

we may die in the wilderness.

And Moses said to the
people, fear not stand firm.

Stand firm.

Right.

And see the salvation of the Lord,
which he will work for you today.

For the Egyptians whom you see
today, you shall never see again.

Lord, have mercy.

Oh my gosh, that just fires my belly up.

The Lord will fight for you
and you have only to be silent.

What?

Come on guys.

This is the Lord.

This is the gospel.

We're silent.

We cry out.

And he says, I will do it.

And the enemies you see,
you shall never see again.

So the Lord told Moses, lift up your
staff and stretch out your hand over

the sea and divide it that the people
of Israel may go through the sea on the

on dry ground, and I will harden the
hearts of the Egyptians so that they

shall go in after them, and I will get
glory over Pharaoh and all his hosts.

His chariots and his horsemen and the
Egyptians shall know that I am the

Lord when I have gotten glory over
Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.

That's exactly what happens.

And they get to the end of the story,
they get into the other side of the Red

Sea and the rest of the waters fall in,
uh, against the Egyptians and the go.

The Lord gets glory.

And it says this in verse 31, in chapter
14 of Exodus, Israel saw the great.

Power that the Lord used against
the Egyptians so that the people

feared the Lord and they believed
in the Lord and in his servant.

Moses, why does God do these incredible
displays of power in our lives

like he did for me for years ago?

Like he's done for you, like
he did for the Egyptians.

It's so that we would fear
the Lord and believe in him.

So when I look back on that encounter I
had with the Lord when he broke the bars

of my yoke off of me, I look back and I'm,
I'm encouraged today, and I'm reminded

if I start getting back into this yoke
of slavery and this yoke of religion and

performance, I look back on that time and
I remember, look at what the Lord did.

Look how dramatic it was.

Look how much power there was.

He was making a statement that I am
the Lord and I'm delivering you from

this walk out of this in freedom.

And, um, man, I, I think about
Breakthrough Church and this

is the vision of our church.

This is what we want.

Um, we want to see people.

Have the bars of their yoke
broken off of them in the presence

and power of the Holy Spirit.

And guys, sometimes it
just looks dramatic.

Yeah, people are gonna fall down.

People are gonna shake,
people are gonna sweat.

People are gonna cry out.

It's gonna happen.

Why?

Because yolks are heavy.

And when they, we get released from
them, there's a release in our spirit.

And stuff just happens 'cause we're
so used to being burdened that when

the presence of the Holy Spirit comes
in, our bodies can't help but react.

Because God himself, the creator of all,
has touched our limited physical bodies.

Of course we're gonna feel it.

Of course, stuff is gonna happen, right?

But it's so that we can have a moment
in time that we can mark and remember

as the moment I was delivered.

Now I can be encouraged that
he's delivered me from the thing

I'm struggling with or the thing
that I'm tempted to go back to.

He's already delivered me from it and
his will is that I'd walk in Freedom.

Galatians five says, for
freedom, you have been set free.

Therefore, do not submit
again to a yoke of slavery.

His will is for us to be set free and why?

So that we would be set free.

Why?

So that we will be free.

Why does he want us free?

So you can be free from slavery.

His will is that we would all walk
in freedom and walk erect, walk

up high stand firm and be upright
in our spirits and in our bodies.

This is his will for us, y'all.

Um, and this is what Jesus
showed us on the cross.

And in his death, he broke the bars of
the yoke of death and sin off of us.

And when we come to Jesus and we look
at the blood of Jesus and his love

poured out for us, we're set free and
we're set on a rock that is Jesus,

and we're placed in new purpose.

To walk it out.

The Galatians five passage will also go
on to say, do not use your freedom to

indulge the sinful nature or the flesh,
but use your freedom to love people.

So when we love people,
sacrificially, people look at

us and say, how are you so free?

How are you?

How do you not care about
what happens to you?

Oh, because I've been set
free by the blood of Jesus.

He's broken the bars of my yolk,
and I'm standing tall in his

presence because of what he's done.

And it might be offensive to some because
they think you're being pretentious

or cocky or too confident, but it's
actually the most humble thing in the

world to come to Jesus and say, I need
you to break the bars of my yo Lord and

set me free, and set me on a rock and
let me run a new purpose and new life.

And Jesus, you're the
only one that can do that.

That's the most humble thing you could do.

And guess what he'll do?

He'll do it because he is good
and he hears your cries for help.

So, um.

Man, I, I'm just so encouraged.

I know Breakthrough Church is coming
up and even if we weren't planted in

this church, this is still the way
that we supposed to live, that we're

supposed to live even just 20 minute,
uh, maybe like an hour ago, guys, I

was at the post office and the woman
that was helping me out said that she

has migraines, and I immediately, in my
spirit thought I need to pray for her.

And there's other people
in there, and it's close.

Close, close quarters.

Like, it's not like I'm gonna hide this.

And I, I, I just, but I was like,
forget it, I'm going for it.

And so I said, Hey, how
bad is your migraine?

She's like, oh, it's so bad.

I have a condition where there's
fluid buildup in my spinal

cord and it's hurts my head.

I said, I wanna pray for you.

I believe God can heal you.

And she's, I believe it too.

Uh, but I have a condition.

I said, I believe God is more strong,
is stronger than your condition.

And, uh, let me pray for you right now.

And she was like, all right.

So I prayed for her quickly in
the name of Jesus and, and then

she said she was grateful and
she believes that God can do it.

And I asked her how she was
feeling and she was like, oh,

well, I believe, I believe so.

I'm trusting that in faith there
was a seed planted, and that

maybe even tonight, as she goes
about her day, she'll be healed.

But this is it, right?

This is like the kingdom is here.

The breaker of the bars of Yolk is here.

His name is Jesus, and he walks through
his people in power and authority.

So let's get after it guys.

Um, this is what we're supposed to do.

So whether you're a part of
breakthrough or not, uh, I pray that

this mobilizes the church to be the
army that God has created it to be.

As we receive freedom from
Jesus, we would then release

freedom into people around us.

Uh.

So again, we'd love to see you guys
join us on, um, September 13th or

the few weeks after to stagger it
and just to see, uh, uh, some of

our, um, uh, family and friends
join us over the first month or two.

Um, and, uh, that's,
that's what's going on.

So grateful for you guys.

Thanks for tuning in and
we'll see you next time.
