Multiplying Faith Through Prayer and Presence
Participant: Hey everybody.
Welcome back to another episode of
the Breakthrough Church Podcast.
Excited to share with
you some things today.
Um, three things on my mind.
Uh, prayer group strategy, uh,
UTD, outreach and the new facility.
So, uh, I'll start with the new facility.
Um.
Really excited about the
facility we're gonna meet.
And I can't say enough about Sam
Chaco and the, the, the leadership
of Loft City Church in Richardson.
Uh, for those of you that don't
know, they purchased, they're,
they're growing, uh, as a church
and they needed a new building.
And the Lord provided, uh, a new building
for them right by Richardson High School.
And.
They just newly renovated the worship
center and it looks incredible.
I went to, me and a couple of the people
on the launch team went to one of their
services, their first service this last
Sunday, their first service in their
new building, and when I walked in I
was just in awe at how good it looked.
Looked so good and, and clean and fresh
and, um, just the way Sam, uh, pushed
that forward and it, I mean, two months
to do all that renovation, like if you
would see before and after, you'd be
like, wow, that happened in two months.
So they got after it and I'm very grateful
and just Sam's generosity, letting
us use the facility on Saturdays and
potentially in the mid midweek as well.
Uh, just can't say
enough about, about Sam.
Um, and Loft and, uh, so
excited to be, be visiting.
So I'll, I'll say it again.
Uh, we're launching on September
13th, uh, Saturday night at 5:00 PM
will be our first public service,
uh, that we're inviting people to.
Uh, you can come, uh, this coming
Saturday, we'll be in the new
facility, but we're gonna be
trying to figure out a VL and just.
We'll worship a little bit probably,
but, um, we're kind of trying to
get used to this space as well.
So, um, you're welcome to come, but
launch is the September 13th, and here's
an idea for some of you, if you're like.
Yeah, I'm excited about Launch
or maybe you're like, um, I'm
not sure if I can make launch.
I wanna actually pitch an idea to
you that, um, Phil Claycomb, the
director of Nexus, him and his wife
Barb, actually joined our launch
team at Breakthrough, which is a big
win wealth of experience and wisdom.
They're excited to have them on the team.
Uh, but he was like, you know, a lot
of people show up on launch and then
they'd never come back, and that's okay.
Because that's, that's normal.
It's like a grand opening of a restaurant.
But he, he suggested that when we talk
to people, have them come, uh, and
spread out the first two or three months.
And so if you're wanting to come to
launch, I would say maybe come week
two, uh, or maybe come week three
or week four, and just be friendly.
Because if somebody knew that hasn't
come to church or is seeking Jesus
and they come and they meet you
and you're friendly, they might,
they might never see you again.
But they do know that the people
that breakthrough are friendly.
And so, um, not clickbait, I don't think.
If it's clickbait, then the Holy
Spirit can convict me of that.
But, um, if you're, if you're wanting
to be a part and even serve in just
a small way, come week two, week
three, week four, um, and just meet
somebody and be friendly and, uh, I
think that would be, uh, a blessing.
So, uh, so excited about the space.
I found my heart really coming alive
and getting excited about, um, just
stewarding the presence of the Holy
Spirit, uh, in our time together.
Very excited.
Okay.
Um.
Excuse me.
Uh, the next piece of the
puzzle is UTD outreach.
Hold on one sec.
Excuse me.
I went to UTD again, uh, this last
Tuesday, and, uh, met up with Sal
and Tom, two guys on our launch team.
And Nelly is the manager at
Starbucks, and I usually have a
sit down conversation with her
Tuesday mornings during her break.
And, um, so we all met and, and
Nelly took her break and she
came over and hung out with us.
So it was all four of us sitting right
there and we just, we were like, Hey, what
did the Lord speak to you guys on Saturday
night at, at church at Breakthrough?
And so we all went around in a circle and
shared what God was doing in our lives.
Um, there were tears, there was
encouragement, there was confession.
Um, it was, it was like a little tiny
small group right there in the middle
of Starbucks, uh, in Richardson.
Uh, and I was like looking
around like, oh, this is cool.
I didn't even like plan for
this, but this is happening.
This is great.
And I thought, this is discipleship.
This is how Jesus did things.
Uh, just meeting and talking about
the Lord and talking about what
they're hearing and how they're
following him and how they're trying
to follow and failing, but trying to.
Really hard to follow Jesus, but
trusting in his grace and all that.
And man, it was, it was powerful.
It was a small moment.
Many, many people probably didn't even
know we were there talking about that.
But for me, in the journey I've
been, I was looking at that moment
thinking, wow, this is the Lord.
This is discipleship.
This is really cool and it's organic.
We didn't plan this.
It just happened, which is always
awesome and makes it feel more legit,
even though that's not necessarily true.
Um, but it's exciting.
So, um.
And then, so after that, me, Sal and
Tom walked around campus with our invite
cards inviting people to launch day.
And uh, it was a little awkward at first.
There was one guy that I tried
to hand a card to and he just,
he like, wouldn't take the cart.
I was like, Hey man, what are you doing?
He is like, I'm part of a startup.
And I basically said, Hey,
we're part of a startup too.
We're starting a church.
We'd love for you to come, man.
And I, I handed out a card and he's
like, oh, no, no, no, I'm good.
I'm good.
And he walked away.
I was like, okay.
You know, that kinda hurts my
ego, but maybe I needed that.
Um, uh, and so we kept walking
and we went to the student union
where a lot of students hang out.
And it's the summer, right?
There's hardly any students there.
Uh, but we, uh, we went in
there and we just, 3, 2, 1, go.
We crossed the chicken line and,
and we started walking up to people,
sitting at tables and engaging in
conversation and giving them invite cards.
And this one guy I walked up
to was such a powerful moment.
I don't wanna share too much, but, um.
I'll basically share this, that he
was really open, asked questions
about the church and I and I, he, he's
really into music and he's, he's a
dj and one thing led to another and I
asked him what he would do if music,
uh, if he didn't have music anymore.
And he jokingly, but also seriously,
it was, it was a clever moment.
He goes, I'd probably find God.
Uh, he believes religion is just,
uh, is something that people do to
be a part of something bigger than
themselves and he appreciates it.
But, you know, for him
that's music is his religion.
And I thought, what if music goes,
what if you get, you know, you
lose your hearing or something?
And he was like, yeah,
I'd probably find God.
And I said, Hey man, I think God's
trying to find you right now.
And, um, man, I, I just wanna, I want
to, can I share something with you?
And so I sat down, I shared the gospel
of the kingdom that Jesus is here.
He provides a way out of the world
into something that's lasting
unshakeable, that you can't lose
it and it can't be taken from you.
And.
Asked if that was interesting or
curious to him, and he said yes.
And, and so he took the card.
I got his number, and he even, he's
even interested in wanting to help out
with, uh, our soundboard and like a VL.
Um, and, and so, uh, I've texted him a
couple times and trying to, you know,
he hasn't responded, which is okay.
You know, it's a weird thing for
stranger to walk up to you and started
engaging in spiritual conversations.
Uh, but I was encouraged.
I thought, man, it just took
a little bit of getting going
across the chicken line and.
I heard a sta, maybe this isn't
true, uh, but I leave it up to you
to go, uh, but I trust my source.
Uh, told, he told me my
source, which is my, okay.
It's my younger brother and he's
way smarter than me, and he said
that 30 million people have given
their life to Christ this year,
something like that, or in the last
few years or something like that.
But his point was that there are people
coming to Christ like crazy right now.
We haven't seen this in a
long time, and I thought.
Okay, let's go.
The harvest is plentiful.
There are people literally
looking for Jesus.
Uh, and they just need
someone to put in a good word.
Uh, and it just takes a
little bit of boldness.
Like I think we as a church
just need to get over ourselves.
We need to cross the chicken
line and realize that being
a Christian is not about you.
It's not about me.
It's about others.
Finding and worshiping Jesus
and loving him forever and
being loved by him forever.
So I just wanna encourage you, like
that conversation I had with the,
that student, it was so simple.
Like he just.
He teed it up, he's like,
religion's something bigger than
myself and for me it's music.
And I just was like, well what happens
if music goes and it just led to one
thing, uh, one thing led to another.
And here we are, I'm
sharing the gospel with him.
So man, cross the chicken line.
Let's go.
The church needs to stand
up and get after it.
'cause there's people out there that are
seeking Jesus that are ready to accept
him, but nobody's told them about him.
And you could be that person.
So let's go, let's get after it.
He can save the lost.
That's what Jesus is up to right now.
Um.
He's seeking and saving the loss.
And I think of John four, the
father is seeking worshipers who
worship him in spirit and truth
mission is unto worship, right?
We're not just trying to create more
missionaries, although mission is a
part of it, but what flows, what mission
flows out of a, a worship movement?
Um, and so we at The Breakthrough,
we're so passionate about worshiping
Jesus, not just through song, but
living a, a life lived in alignment
with the revelation of who he is.
Um, and when we do that, we have to
tell people about him 'cause he's
so good and so real and worship is
what makes, uh, specifically praise.
And Thanksgiving is what
makes God so real to us.
He, uh, inhabits the
praises of his people.
Which leads me to my third thing
I wanted to talk to you guys
about and which is prayer groups.
Um, you know, that we've been praying on
Tuesday mornings for, for, for months.
Uh, I think it's been over a year
for me and Sal and, um, so, you know.
Slowly but surely we've, uh, that
group has grown to, there's a, there's
a core of, of probably five or six,
and then there's, um, an outer core,
an outer layer to that of people who
are there most of the time of about,
you know, three to four others.
So we, we could have five, we could have,
you know, eight to 10 any Tuesday morning.
And, um, one, one Tuesday
morning, I was, um, I was.
Praying with like the core, they, they
were like the only ones that were there.
And I just remember, um,
the Lord saying to me at the
end of our prayer time, multiply
this, multiply this, and I.
I looked up at them and I said, guys, I
think the Lord wants us to multiply this.
I think he wants more prayer groups to
launch, and I think that breakthrough's
gonna be a church where, where we pray.
Jesus said that my house will be
a house of prayer for all nations,
and I think that we've gotta pray.
And I think he wants you guys to be
leaders of new prayer, prayer groups.
And, um, one of the people in that
group was like, I'm in, I've, I've
been waiting for you to say that.
And then the other,
other two are in as well.
And then, and Sal's one of
'em, and, and he works for me,
so he has to, just kidding.
He, he's on fire for it as well.
So, um, I just felt like the
Lord wanted us to create this
like network of little houses of
prayer, these little prayer groups.
Of eight to 10 people that just seek
God's heart together and steward
his presence and then intercede for
each other, uh, and for the city.
And I just, uh, you imagine that like
what if Breakthrough was a church
that we gathered on Saturdays to,
to, to encounter Jesus, to seek him.
Um, and then, and then, uh, throughout
the week we're gathering with a
smaller group of people caring for
one another, praying for one another.
But the priority is we are
gonna pray and not just ask
God for stuff, but we're gonna.
We're gonna put all of
our attention on Jesus.
We're gonna thank him, we're gonna
worship him, him, and we're gonna
intercede in prayer, uh, for each other
and for our city and for our church.
And, and, uh, we've seen the power of it.
There's been breakthroughs that
have happened in that prayer time.
People have gotten touched by the spirit.
Um, I believe things that we're seeing God
provide for where prayers that we prayed
a year ago and God is answering them.
And, and it just, if anything,
it keeps our hearts aligned with
the revelation of who God is.
Um, and it's just so powerful.
It's so formative.
Uh, there's scripture, there's the
gifts of the spirit are at play.
There's a lot of silence.
And then we sing a lot.
Man, it's, it's just so amazing
and God has said, multiply it.
And this morning I was reading Genesis,
uh, I'm gonna try to read through the
whole Bible before the end of the year,
which is about eight chapters a day.
So I read four chapters this
morning and Genesis and one.
Uh, things that really stuck out to
me was when God created everything.
He created things to multiply, he
created trees to bear, fruit that
had seeds in it, so that those seeds
could bear more fruit and multiply.
And there's more than just
one seed in each fruit, right?
Um, some fruit there's not, but, but
the point is that God created things
and to, to multiply even human beings.
We are created to multiply and, and
Jesus multiplies the bread and the fish.
He's the multiplier.
So you see his creative power in
that story, um, uh, in, in, uh,
in Matthew and Mark and Luke.
And, um, and so when God births
something, when he creates something
in mind, he wants it to multiply.
He wants when it's truly born of him,
his heart is that it wouldn't just grow
to maturity, but part of maturity is
multiplication and part of being grown
as an, as a human being, as God has
designed it, is so that we would multiply.
Abby and I have three kids
that's multiplication.
God has birthed something
from our love and intimacy.
And so in this prayer group, as
we've been intimate with the Lord
and vulnerable with each other, from
that intimacy is going to birth a
multiplication of these prayer groups.
It's just how God works.
It's how he built it into creation.
Um, and so, uh.
I just feel like breakthrough,
the Lord on my heart is
breakthroughs a multiplying church.
It's a church.
'cause we can't not, it doesn't
make sense to not multiply.
It can't make sense for us to grow into
maturity and then not ever multiply.
'cause that's not maturity.
It's immature to not multiply.
Um.
So all that to say, uh, the Lord is,
is, uh, I, I've identified a lead.
I've identified leaders.
We're gonna put together a training for
leaders and some others that are kind
of on that outer layer of the core.
Uh, and we're gonna just start
launching four or five more
prayer groups before launch.
And so.
We'll, hopefully, hopefully have those
established before the end of the year
where those groups have been praying
together and establishing, um, just
the Lord's presence in their midst and
building relationships with each other.
And, and hopefully in the fall,
maybe in the new year, we'll be
able to open those up to people,
uh, wanting to come and pray.
And so, uh, I just say all that and,
and one of the things that's on my
mind and heart to share with you guys
is how are you multiplying yourself?
Part of being a mature Christian
is multiplying yourself.
And I don't just mean if you're a parent,
you have kids and therefore you're done.
I'm talking about like discipleship.
How are you multiplying
yourself in somebody else?
What seeds are you planting in others?
Because we were created to do
that and God is a multiplying God.
He created in the created order, he built
into it the design of multiplication.
And Jesus says, go and make disciples.
And so I just wanna encourage
you, how are you making disciples?
How are you multiplying what
God has done in you and others?
Because that's what you're called to do.
I don't know what it is.
Everybody is gonna be different, and
this is where we find our unique.
Uh, calling and destiny is, God has
done something in Josh Break that is
unique, uh, from what he's doing in you.
And so I can fulfill my destiny, my
purpose, and my calling by multiplying
what God has done in me and others.
And so if you're, if you're saying,
I, I don't even know what's in me.
I don't know.
Well, guess where.
Guess what is the place that God births
things into, that he wants to grow
and mature and then multiply intimacy.
Birthing only happens
in moments of intimacy.
We know this on a human level, in a
spiritual level, if you want God to
birth something unique in you, and
I would argue he already has, but to
discover it and for it to give, uh,
birth in your heart and for them to
express it, it comes through intimacy.
So get with the Lord, be with him.
Set aside time, say like, this
time in my day and my week is the
Lord's, and I'm gonna seek his heart.
I'm gonna seek to know
him and be known by him.
I'm gonna leave nothing off the table.
I'm gonna give him everything.
I'm gonna worship him.
I'm gonna engage him in
prayer, and I'm going to read
scripture and I'm gonna just.
Be with the Lord and be intimate with him.
Uh, and he will, I promise you
that from that place, he will
birth something fresh and new and
you will walk out of that space.
Maybe not in one day, probably not in one
day, probably not in one week, but over
time, as you wait on the Lord, he will
birth something in you and that will be.
Thing that will grow and then you
will multiply it in other people.
So, um, man, I hope that's an
encouragement, it's an encouragement
to me this morning as I'm thinking
about prayer groups and discipleship
and how I'm multiplying what God's
done in me, in others, and, um.
Just wanna encourage you with that today.
So as always, we would love to see you
on a Saturday night at Breakthrough
Church, uh, 1320 Holly Drive in
Richardson at Loft City Church.
If you Google Maps Loft
City Church, you'll see it.
Uh, and we're meeting this Saturday,
uh, but, but we're really just trying
to work towards that day on September
13th and, and then post-launch.
In the fall.
So, um, would love to see you guys any
Saturday, but specifically September 13th
or the following Sundays or Saturday,
sorry, Saturday, Saturday, Saturday.
Uh, follow us on Instagram break through
Dallas, uh, share and like everything
that we do so we can get the, the word
out about, uh, the gospel of Jesus.
We love you.
I love you guys.
I'm so grateful for you tuning in
and, uh, be blessed this week and
go in the power of the spirit.
Love y'all.
Bye.
